about the story

Written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Donald Margulies, Time Stands Still is set in present day Brooklyn where photojournalist Sarah is returning home on crutches, her face scarred by shrapnel from a roadside bomb in Iraq. Accompanying is her boyfriend, James, a freelance journalist, who is overcompensating for his guilt over not being there when it happened. When an old friend and colleague makes an awkwardly-timed visit with his new and much younger girlfriend, simmering tensions strip back the layers of their relationships. Sarah and James try to cope with normal life—including piecing together what 'normal' now means. The complexities of both working to expose and being exposed to raw and intense life in a war zone continue to colour their relationship. Time Stands Still masterfully dramatizes the inherent conflict between what one thinks and how one should—or can—live.

Margulies’s Tony-nominated play was one of the hits of the 2014 Toronto Fringe Festival and was awarded Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Ensemble by NOW Magazine.  Due to popular demand, this acclaimed production returns for a limited run at Theatre Passe Muraille Mainspace, March 12 – 29, 2015, presented by the TSS Collective.
